Purely from an aesthetic point of view this new bar is absolutely grim in my opinion nothing would entice me to try it as it looks like a throwback to the 1980’s in terms of décor – black and red – so dark and depressing.
Alwyn makes an excellent point about change of use. Neighbours are entitled to complain about excessive noise.
“Moving forward and developing” does not mean opening up noisy bars that offer nothing new – we have pubs, wine bars, night club and great restaurants already on the high street.
Your patronising point about reserving “Beckenham as the Kent village that some residents seem to think it still is” is gob smacking really. Nothing about Beckenham high street is Kent village…..you obviously haven’t lived here very long 🙄
I think the council have received complaints from the neighbours about noise, now my opinion is that if you buy or rent on a busy High St, don’t be surprised to get noise from businesses. you made your bed when you chose to live above or next door to a business.
Well, maybe, but isn’t this a new restaurant use? (I’m trying to remember what it replaced – Barclays? The Aladdin’s Cave place?) There’s a big difference between living above a shop, and living above a pub or restaurant with a customer garden, especially if you started living there while it was still a shop.
It seems the neighbours have complained about the noise from Two-Ten and Bromley council are reviewing their License

Now I think this raises some interesting issues about how our High St evolves on a wider level. It’s no secret that our High St in Beckenham is at a tipping point, some wonderful new eateries have opened in the last 24 months and recently a gallery, which is all great, but also we still have a lot of empty shops and charity shops. It could still go either way which is why I am very much in support of Two-Ten in their License Review with the council. I think a lot of people consider them unsuitable but having spent time there I think they are bringing something unique to our High St, something multi cultural and they are doing it very well. The bar and garden have been beautifully done.

There is also mention of "Protection of Children from Harm" which I think relates to the issue of smoking. On this one I agree with the Council and clearly children should not be in an environment where smoking is occurring such as the garden space at Two-Ten. I imagine that can be resolved simply with a ‘No Children In The Garden sign’ and not closing the whole place.
I don’t think we can reserve Beckenham as the Kent village that some residents seem to think it still is, if we keep it preserved we will kill it, it has to move forward and develop. Unfortunately the preservers have a lot of time on their hands to write letters and complain about traffic and noise etc. While the more open minded tend to be busy with work and family life.
I think the improvement scheme in our High St is a great opportunity to modernise the hub of our community and we should welcome businesses like Two-Ten even if they are not your cup of tea. It’s a very brave and courageous thing to open a new business in the current climate and as a community we should embrace and support such efforts.
I have already written to the council in support of Two-Ten and I urge you to do the same. Be open minded, be progressive, lets make our town centre the most interesting in South East London.
