Nothing wrong with Beckenham as a place and it has some lovely property but I used to live in the country and compared to what I’ve been used to, I find this area far too busy traffic-wise and too polluted, also parking is a nightmare and expensive. I do visit BPP every day as a bit of an escape.
Hi!
I’m new to this forum but have lived in Beckenham for a few years and absolutely love it.
Beckenham has really good transport links and beautiful houses – it’s so green and chilled-out and peaceful. The green is pretty and hosts great markets. I love having a Waitrose AND a M&S Simply Food. The cinema’s good (although I wish they’d show a few more "indie films" and there are some great coffee shops like Fee and Brown. Both Kelsey Park and Beckenham Place Park are beautiful.
I also love how the feel of Beckenham is changing in the time I’ve been here. And for the better. I’ve loved the Jolly Woodman and places to eat like Sapore Vero – and will continue to VERY happily support them – but since I moved in The Chancery, Kelsey Bar and Kitchen and Chai Naastro have all opened and are breathing new life into Beckenham.
If I was being really demanding I’d like to see a micro-pub like Nunhead’s Beer Shop London open up locally so we have great craft beer, a greengrocer for cheap/organic veg without so much packaging, a mural to David Bowie would be a great way to mark our musical heritage and liven up high street; and a few more independent bars/places to eat would be really welcome too.
Mostly though it’s a really safe, charming and happy place to live. Looking forward to using this forum lots – thanks so much for setting it up!
I do understand your "extremely distasteful" remark bovine juice.
This has been happening all over the country for centuries, ever since the capitalist system took over from bartering.
You finding it sooooo distasteful seems a bit pointless, worrying about capitalism in a capitalist society, perhaps you have a better system in mind.
I’m pretty sure you will not hesitate to let us know!
Hi Edenparkvicky – I know and I will certainly be assisting my son if I can but not everyone can. I just find the comment that one of the plus points of an area could be that it prices out people and allows someon to make a mint when selling up extremely distasteful on what is a positive thread.
That’s pretty good John, If I didn’t already live here I would move
We do have great services here, so many stations and the hospital beside Croydon Rec etc. Lots in a fairly small area.
@Bovine Juice I think the rising cost of housing is a national problem but worse in the SE, we’ll have to help our children financially if they are ever to get on the housing ladder I imagine.
Thanks for your comments so far.
For what it’s worth, my ‘sales pitch’ about Beckenham would go on the lines of this….
Beckenham is one of the last remaining towns situated well within the M25 which has the best of England – A ‘villagey’ feel with a friendly community spirit yet with great access to almost everything you’ll need: Local and branded shops; fantastic links to London and, if you have an ounce of musical flair in you…a place where even the talented David Bowie was inspired!
Anyway, keep them coming…How would you ‘sell’ Beckenham?
What?
Founded in October 2016, the Beckenham Forum is an online meeting place for the residents of Beckenham to share their knowledge and experiences of life in the area.
Who?
The Beckenham Forum is not a faceless franchise based in California, we are a local couple living in Village Way, Beckenham.
Why?
We created the forum because we believe that being part of a community makes living somewhere much more enjoyable. An online community is something you can use where and when you want to.
